Job description:Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) has recently been added to the Dutch National Immunization Programme. HPV vaccination aims to reduce cervical cancer, but until now vaccine efficacy has only been demonstrated against short-term intermediate endpoints (persistent infection, precancerous lesions). Therefore, monitoring the epidemiology of HPV infection is crucial to assess the long-term effectiveness of the HPV vaccination programme in reducing the incidence of cervical cancer. The candidate will develop mathematical models that can reproduce the observed patterns of HPV infection and HPV-related disease. The models are vital for interpreting observed changes in the epidemiology of HPV after introduction of vaccination. The models should also identify informative surrogate endpoints by which the population impact of HPV vaccination can be monitored in the short term. The project will result in the writing of scientific publications and a dissertation.
